It's best not to delete a backup unless you know it's a duplicate of another backup, or otherwise useless/unusable/etc. Also, are you backing up directly to the USB stick, or making a QBB (backup) on the hard drive and copying that to the USB? The latter is the best method, as QB doesn't really play nicely with USB storage devices of any stripe very well.
For speed, yes, your best bet is a ProAdvisor or QB's tech support and/or data repair. Either way,
