Your best bet would be to make a Backup of the file and then Restore it on your laptop. If you make ANY changes to the file, you would need to (a) make sure that nobody else is using the file, and then (b) reverse this process when you're done (backup on laptop and then restore on network). There is no way to merge disparate files if both "versions" end up in use simultaneously, so please be VERY careful when doing this.
You may want to consider looking into the Accountant's Edition if this is something you plan to do frequently, as it allows one to "split" a file into two components, where the "normal" users and the "Accountant" user each have access to specific functions that the other does not.
