Inventory Purchase and Receiving

I have enterend my inventory manually from the begining of our buisness not knowing that the inventory would not show up on our reports as in the system if we didn't do a receiving voucher. My question is shouldn't the inventory I manually entered be in the system without me doing a purchase order and a receiving voucher?
