hello!

i have diligently entered my credit card charges under - "banking" --> "enter credit card charges" for the past year.

i'm trying to give my account totals for each category, but i can't seem to generate a report from it - the way i can in a P&L statement from my checking account.

i can see the register for each credit card, but would LOVE to get totals for "electronics", "medical", etc.

any ideas? help me!

would be VERY VERY grateful!!!!

thanks,

From the menu path you mentioned, I'm guessing QuickBooks?

Most version of QuickBooks support "Classes", which are a free-form categorization tool. If you assign Classes to each transaction, you will be abel to run Reports By Class to break them up. note that any txns on such reports which lack a Class will get lumped into the "No Class" Class.

For CC transactions, you can assign classes to individual line items, but not to the txns themselves. In Edit > Preferences > Accounting > Company, you can have QB remind you to set a Class for every txn, but it will not FORCE you to do it.
