*.DAT ERRORS WHILE PRINTING IN PT COMPLETE

We just wanted to post this easy fix to *.DAT errors that plagued us when we were trying to print checks, invoices, and reports in Peachtree Complete (older version and 2005). We are using a PC with Windows XP, printing with both a laser printer and an all-in-one printer. Right now we click on START, then CONTROL PANEL, then PRINTERS AND FAXES. We make sure that the correct printer is checked as the default printer. (For some reason, even if we assign a different printer in Peachtree, if the default has somehow been changed to say our scan or fax program, Peachtree will give us the *.DAT errors and won't print or save.) If the correct printer was already checked as the default, then we delete the printer and reinstall it using the program on the computer (no program discs required). This only takes a minute. I believe we do exit out of Peachtree and login again, but you could try re-printing without that step to see if it works first! TIP: SAVE YOUR INVOICES BEFORE PRINTING THEM TO AVOID HAVING TO RETYPE THEM IF THE PROGRAM GIVES YOU THE *.DAT ERRORS. WHEN YOU'RE READY TO PRINT, HAVE THE BLANK INVOICE SCREEN OPEN, CLICK ON THE ARROW NEXT TO THE PRINT ICON AND CHOOSE "SELECT INVOICES TO PRINT". We hope this saves you some headaches! :)

What specific .DAT errors were you getting? If it was "I/O error in ___.DAT", it means that one or more of your data files has become corrupted. That's usually pretty easy to fix. Based on the fact that this has been a problem in prior versions, the corruption has likely been there for several years.

If this is indeed the case and if you like, we can help with that sort of thing. We offer paid technical support. Please give us a call at the number below, and we'll be glad to help you out.
