I just bought a brand new computer today. I installed my 2008 quickbooks pro on it & now my computer is acting really weird.I bought a Sony Vaio with Vista it has a 64 bit OS. Is there a reason that quickbooks is slowing everything way down? I have since removed it from my computer now because I could not use the internet when I had it installed. It slowed everything WAY down. Has anyone else had this happen? Does this mean I need to buy a newer version of quickbooks? Do they make 64 bit versions & 32 bit versions?

I seem to have had problems with this version of quickbooks since I bought it. I originally bought it & installed it on my Dell that was about 3 years old at the time. As soon as I installed it my computer was really sluggish. I dealt with it for a year or so & finally got irritated & bought a new laptop thinking this would solve my problem. Well now it seems even worse. I can't even use the stupid internet now if it installed.

Someone please help!!! If you have any ideas of how to fix this problem I would really appreciate it!

I haven't seen QB in and of itself slowing a whole system down, but here's what I do know:

- QuickBooks is 32-bit only. It's supposed to work on 64-bit systems, however. I have heard of problems cropping up occasionally in that regard, especially where printing and PDF's/reports are concerned.

- You have 64-bit Windows, am I correct in assuming that you are also using a 64-bit processor?

- How much RAM do you have? For XP Pro, I would recommend no less than 2 GB; For Vista (non-Home): 4 GB. For each, 1 GB less is OK if you're not running QuickBooks or Office or anything like that.

- Do you have Norton/Symantec or McAfee anti-virus installed? Both of them are notorious for interfering with QuickBooks. Trend Micro and AVG both seem to play nice with it.

- How is your hard drive space? If the C Drive (where Windows resides) is below 30% free space, everything will slow to a crawl. This is unlikely to be the case, given that you have a new system, however.

- Are you using wireless networking or attempting to run QB over a VPN? Either one will drag QB itself down significantly, and are inadvisable.
